Assumptions and fee sources · Fees verified July 2026 · Benchmarks July 2026

Every figure here is an estimate for planning, not a guarantee of earnings. Your real numbers depend on your products, your traffic, and your shipping.

Rates shown are for US-based sellers. Etsy and WooPayments charge different processing rates outside the US, and international cards cost more everywhere.

Shopify figures assume Shopify Payments. Using a third-party gateway adds a 2% Shopify surcharge on top of that gateway's own fees.

Etsy Offsite Ads applies only to orders an ad actually generated, so the calculator charges it against the share of orders you set — not against all of them. The rate falls from 15% to 12% once a shop passes $10,000 in trailing-year revenue.

Running several channels adds their sales together. It does not model buyers who would have purchased from you anyway on another channel, so treat a multi-channel total as an upper bound rather than a forecast. Each channel does carry its own fees and subscriptions, which is why adding one can lower your profit at low volume.

Order benchmarks: the $156/mo figure is arithmetic from Etsy's FY2025 10-K — $10.46B of marketplace sales across 5.6M active sellers — and includes dormant shops. The median and full-time figures come from third-party seller surveys and are materially less rigorous.

Sales tax, VAT, returns, refunds, and design or advertising labour are not modelled.

Every rate this calculator uses

These are the exact numbers behind the figures above — not a simplified summary of them. The calculator reads this schedule directly, so what you see here is what it charges you.

Rates verified July 2026 for US-based sellers. Platforms change their pricing; if this date is old, treat the output as stale.

Etsy

No monthly subscription. Charges are per listing and per sale.

Transaction fee6.5% of the buyer total
Payment processing3% + $0.25
Listing fee$0.20 / 4 months
Sold-listing renewal$0.20 per sale
Offsite Ads15% / 12%

The $0.20 listing charge lands twice for different reasons: once when a listing is published or renewed for its 4-month term, and again each time an item sells and the listing auto-renews. The calculator amortises the first ($0.05 per listing per month) and charges the second per order.

Offsite Ads bills 15% of an attributed order, dropping to 12% once a shop passes $10,000 in trailing-year revenue. It applies only to orders an ad actually generated — never to your whole book of business, which is where most published calculators overstate the damage.

Shopify

A monthly subscription plus card rates that improve with the plan.

Basic$39/mo · 2.9% + $0.30
Grow$105/mo · 2.7% + $0.30
Advanced$399/mo · 2.5% + $0.30

No per-listing fee, so catalogue size costs you nothing here. Rates assume Shopify Payments; a third-party gateway adds a 2% Shopify surcharge on top of that gateway's own fees, which this calculator does not model.

WooCommerce

Free software, but self-hosting is a real monthly bill.

Platform commissionNo platform commission
WooPayments2.9% + $0.30
Hosting (editable)$25.00/mo default

WooCommerce itself charges nothing, which is why it looks free in most comparisons. It is not: a production store needs hosting, a domain, and SSL. The calculator bills hosting as a line item you can edit rather than letting WooCommerce win by omission.

Printify Premium

Optional, and it cuts both ways.

Subscription$39/mo
Product discount20% off product cost

Premium is a cost and a saving at once, so there is a volume below which it loses money. Break-even is the subscription divided by what the discount saves per order — at a $11.00 product cost that is 18 orders a month; at $5.00 it is 39. The toggle in the calculator applies both halves so you can find your own crossover instead of guessing.

Printify pricing

Not modelled anywhere: sales tax, VAT, returns, refunds, chargebacks, currency conversion, international card surcharges, overlap between channels where the same buyer would have found you either way, and the hours you spend on design and advertising. Those are real costs — they are just not ones a fee schedule can predict for you.
